In this case, you usually don’t want a frequency range that is too wide. On the other hand, most of us have to make those compromises. You usually change your EQ settings for a genre or between album-length pieces, and rarely break all the way through.
Let’s say you want to make sure the bass is a bit lower-pitched, but lets, say, the midrange is in the upper register and you don’t want to dampen it too much. Go to your EQ slider, click on the Rider knob, and drop lower the center frequency, and raise the bandwidth.
Rare sets the bottom of the frequency range at, in this case, 50Hz, and the top at 500Hz. You can choose different values, but there’s no reason to spend more time trying to fine-tune these settings than the ones provided in the presets. Here, we have 50Hz at the bottom and 500Hz at the top.
However, there are a few good reasons to not just set the bottom of this frequency range at 50Hz and the top at 500Hz. Experienced users often want to set the target frequency range as close to zero as possible and as wide or broad as needed.
By setting the Gain to 0, the user can mute the plugin entirely and bypass the unit. If the Attenuation control is set to -100, the plugin will bypass entirely and not even have a frequency response curve to see. You can then set a frequency range for the Attenuation control, which you can then then zoom in on by clicking the Attenuation button and it will zoom in or zoom out to that particular frequency range.
Moving the bass equalizer up to +40db, however, would give you a lot ofbass, but a huge amount of distortion would be introduced. The ear is onlysensitive to certain frequencies when listening to music. d2c66b5586
