Plot Summary

The movie begins with Ganga (Govinda), a happy-go-lucky village boy who lives with his foster parents (Shivaji Satham and Reema Lagoo) in a small village called Ramgarh. He is loved by everyone in the village, especially by Saawni (Sonali Bendre), a simple and innocent girl who has a crush on him. Ganga is unaware of his real identity, as he was separated from his biological parents when he was a baby.

One day, he receives a letter from his biological father (Shakti Kapoor), who is a rich businessman in Mumbai. He invites Ganga to visit him and his wife (Himani Shivpuri) in the city, as they want to reunite with their long-lost son. Ganga is reluctant to leave his village, but his foster parents persuade him to go and meet his real parents. He bids farewell to Saawni and promises to return soon.

Ganga arrives in Mumbai and is shocked to see the contrast between the village and the city. He is greeted by his father's driver (Kader Khan), who takes him to his father's mansion. There, he meets his father, mother, and younger brother (Rinke Khanna), who are all happy to see him. However, he also faces hostility from his father's business partner (Shashi Kiran), who wants to usurp his father's wealth and property. He also meets Tina (Rinku Ghosh), the daughter of his father's friend (Raza Murad), who is engaged to him as per their fathers' wish.

Ganga finds it hard to adjust to the city life, as he is used to the simple and honest ways of the village. He does not like the artificiality and hypocrisy of the city people, and often gets into trouble for speaking his mind. He also misses Saawni, who writes letters to him regularly. He decides to call her and invite her to Mumbai, but she misunderstands him and thinks that he has forgotten her.

Meanwhile, Tina falls in love with Ganga, as she finds him different from the other city boys. She tries to impress him with her modern clothes and manners, but he is not interested in her. He tells her that he loves someone else, but she does not believe him. She also tries to make him jealous by flirting with other boys, but he does not care.

One day, Ganga's brother gets kidnapped by some goons, who demand a ransom of 5 crore from his father. Ganga learns that his brother's kidnapping was planned by his father's business partner, who wants to ruin his father financially. Ganga decides to save his brother himself, without informing his father or the police. He tracks down the kidnappers' hideout with the help of his driver and some street children. He fights with the goons and rescues his brother.

However, he also gets framed for murder by his father's business partner, who kills one of the kidnappers and plants Ganga's gun near the body. Ganga is arrested by the police and taken to court. There, he is defended by Saawni, who has come to Mumbai after learning about his situation. She reveals herself as a lawyer, who had been studying law secretly in the village. She proves Ganga's innocence by exposing the real culprit and his motive.

Ganga is acquitted of all charges and reunited with his family. He also confesses his love for Saawni and proposes to her in front of everyone. His father accepts their relationship and cancels his engagement with Tina. Tina also realizes her mistake and apologizes to Ganga and Saawni. The movie ends with Ganga and Saawni getting married in a traditional ceremony in their village.
